2008/09/08: Indig. Peoples Climate Change Assessment 2

From 8-9 September 2008 in Palo Alto, California, USA, the United Nations University - Institute of Advanced Studies Traditional Knowledge Initiative (UNU-IAS TKI) in conjunction with with Association for Nature and Sustainable Development (ANDES) convened a planning meeting for the Indigenous Peoples Climate Change Assessment (IPCCA).

This was a follow-up to the initial IPCCA scoping meeting held in Cusco, Peru in June 2008. The planning meeting focused on consultation with a wider range of stakeholders about the design and process of the IPCCA where invited participants will discuss the following:

1.  Introduction

  • review of background to Assessment
  • lessons learnt from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, Millennium Ecosystem Assessment, the Arctic Climate Impact Assessment and other relevant processes
  • upcoming meetings and processes of importance for the Assessment

2.  Key features of the Assessment

  • conceptual framework and aim of the Assessment
  • methodological basis for the Assessment
  • site matrix for the Assessment
  • templates or outlines for local assessments
  • governance of the Assessment
  • communication strategy for Assessment

3.  Next steps for the Assessment
