Methodology

Local Assessments implemented by local partners of the IPCCA initiative are guided by a conceptual framework which focuses activities on assessing climatic conditions and trends that impact upon local livelihoods and well-being. A methodological framework has been developed, bringing together emancipatory, participatory and indigenous inquiry methods to ensure the objective of empowerement of indigenous peoples and use of indigenous frameworks to support processes of decolonization.

The process used by the Local Assessments to reach their goal of producing evidence-based community adaptation and policy proposals contains several key steps:

  1. Developing a Base Line
  2. Evaluating Conditions and Trends
  3. Performing Visioning and Scenarios
  4. Developing Response Strategies such as Life Plans
  5. Implementing the Responses

This overall process has been further elaborated into a more detailed step by step methodological framework which is being adapted by the Local Assessments, using local methodologies and processes.
